Leaders Need Support

Coaches help people become more successful. A coach is someone who helps you set goals, mentors you in best practices, monitors your performance, and shares the benefit of their perspective and expertise. Coaches can help everyone succeed!

Assessment for learning is making a difference in student learning for many school communities, and teachers are excited about the results. However, there is a need for coaching, guidance, and resources to succeed with classroom, school and district-wide change. Educators can proceed with more confidence when they have opportunities to learn from effective models and receive answers to the many questions that inevitably arise.

Assessment authority, Anne Davies, is working to meet these needs by hosting a series of distance and in-person coaching groups and learning opportunities designed to:

  • familiarize educators with the core concepts of assessment for learning,
  • equip them with practical tools for success,
  • help them overcome and transform barriers, and
  • deepen their understanding of the ways assessment for learning will affect students, teachers, and entire school communities.

We invite you to find out more about these learning opportunities and discover how they can help you and your organization succeed with assessment for learning.

"Assessment for learning holds great promise to increase learning for all students and throughout school communities, but educators need support and guidance to get the results they seek. This series of coaching groups and learning opportunities is designed to foster change in individual classrooms, schools and entire educational systems. We have resources for virtually everyone working to educate students, from individual teachers, right up to system supervisors and directors of education. Our goal is to enable all parts of the system to act in alignment, without which significant change and lasting results will continue to be elusive."

"Assessment for Learning" Guide
– Anne Davies, Ph.D.

Anne Davies is a noted author, speaker, management consultant, and researcher with more than thirty years of experience in education. She has worked in a number of roles, including classroom teacher, school district coordinator, department of education planner, school administrator, and university instructor.

Anne began giving professional development workshops over twenty-five years ago and early-on developed an affinity for the emerging field of assessment for learning because of the results that were being observed in classrooms. She has emerged as an authority in this field and has appeared as a keynote speaker at numerous conferences on assessment across North America and other parts of the world.

In addition, Anne has conducted over 1,000 workshops for groups of up to 1,500 teachers and leaders. She has led multi-year research studies and has authored or co-authored over twenty-nine published books (including the best-seller, Making Classroom Assessment Work), reports, and multi-media resources, five chapters in edited volumes, and more than thirty articles.

Her passion for this work stems from her personal conviction that the principles of assessment for learning, when properly grasped and applied, make a difference for all students and the entire educational system around them. Anne has dedicated her professional life to helping educators succeed with these methods and practices.

Web-based Coaching Supports "Just in time" Learning

Anne Davies works with educators in a variety of ways, depending on which is the most appropriate and cost-effective learning method for a particular group. Technology provides the possibility for "just in time" information being available to all parts of the system, as well as enabling interaction among participants. This means that participants can learn from Dr. Davies as well as from each other.

Educators "learn by doing", which is how the coaching model operates. Participants can work with new ideas and receive regular instruction and feedback throughout the school year. Anne has structured the learning opportunities and resources to provide this support, which enables educators to move ahead with confidence. Learning opportunities include small-group Web-Conferences and in-person events, such as Institutes and an Annual Symposium.
